Domestic truckmakers pullout all the stops in Tundra war

Those involved with the selling of domestic trucks are leaving no stones unturned in their battle against Toyota and their new Tundra.

"As they continue to do well in the marketplace and there's been more and more talk about them eclipsing us to become No. 1, it puts them into a different limelight," GM spokesman Terry Rhadigan said. "It puts them into a more adversarial position."

"They've made it a war," with the Tundra, said Jim Ziegler, an automotive retail consultant based in Duluth, Ga...
"And GM cannot afford to let them win this war."

Full story here.

Clearly the truckmakers are taking this new Toyota very seriously.

And, in Atlanta, a major Chevrolet dealer is airing a radio ad stating, "Toyota contributes more to our staggering national trade deficit than any manufacturer."

I really dislike this stupid America vs. Japanese sentiment. Some people can actually interpret that type of sentiment as racism.

Most of the domestic supports may drive Fords/Chevys/Dodges, but I bet they wear clothing made in China/Taiwan/India/Bangladesh, use computers assembled in China, use LG phones made in Korea, shop online and get customer service from someone in India.

The market place is global nowadays. If you can't compete on a global level, then something is definitely wrong with the business plan.

Everytime I read anti-Toyota/Tundra articles I am reminded of this Top Gear episode. Top Gear in Alabama.

ultimately, it's just down and dirty businessmen trying to make money by taking customers from their competition.
The tactics have turned politician style nasty.

If that's all they can say in the ads, and I'm shopping in that segment, I'd buy the Toyota. If they don't have any concrete advantages to talk about, and have to resort to lame "Buy American" tooting, I'd get the Tundra. Some Silverados are built in Mexico, after all. LOL

Im am not bashing the GM trucks in any way (as they are indeed impressive) but it looks as if this particaular Chevrolet dealer had more faith in the product they wouldnt have to resort to such rediculous measures.
