Subaru showed its long awaited turbodiesel boxer engine at Geneva. Subaru has high hopes that this engine will finally allow Subaru to become a real contender in the European market, where roughly 40 percent of new cars sold are diesels.
Subaru was tight-lipped on the engine specifics. We know it is a 4-valve DOHC unit with a timing chain...
Update: Animated video of this engine here.

Wow, that is impressively compact. Very nice!
And it even looks like a Subaru engine - boxer configuration, yellow oil cap and dipstick, top mounted intercooler, longitudinal layout.
I'm very impressed. Looks like they really went out and designed this on their own. They could easily have gotten help from part-owner Toyota, but they went their own path.
WAY TO GO, SUBARU! :-)

Does Toyota even make a diesel engine? IIRC they signed a contract to buy diesel engines from Isuzu to put in their SUVs and Pickups due to the lack of diesel technology in the Toyota family.

We'll see how this works out for Subaru/FHI. I told Erin to not bother looking at this and get me photos of the WRC car instead. :o)

Toyota has plenty of their own home-grown diesels. They just don't sell them here. If you go to any of their other sites, like Australia, you'll see a lot of diesel-powered SUVs and trucks.
