A new Toyota Land Cruiser 70 with a 4.5L V8 turbo diesel was just announced for the Australian market. It will go on sale at the end of March.
Anyone here willing to bet that the new Tundra, Sequoia, (our) Land Cruiser, and the Lexus siblings won't also see this engine shortly? I say it will happen about the same time that Ford and Dodge introduce their all-new 1/2-ton diesels...
Speaking of Toyota diesels, and again in Australia... Toyota has just introduced a new DOHC 4-valve 3.0 4-cylinder turbo diesel in their mid-sized Land Cruiser Prado. For those not familiar with this model, it's sold here as the Lexus GX470 with a different grille and minus the rear-mounted spare tire; and it is also closely related to the 4Runner. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this engine also sees duty here in the next few years.

Toyota would win quite a few fans if it built diesels here.

Toyota might win some fans by bring that line of LC here, diesel or not. I know I'd buy one.

I agree. I think the purpose-built LC70/78 series would be a great addition to the US model lineup.

I miss the old style Toyota trucks. The new 4Runners and Land Cruisers seem to be far concerned with being high dollar luxury rides for city people.
Even the new FJ is more about form then function.
In the rest of the world, Toyota is legendary for their trucks, they should try to get that back here even if it means alienating the luxury crowd.

Estreka, my father is a product planner for Toyota, sometimes I can trick him into telling me things. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
