Whoa. Wasn't expecting that move Carlos.
In my limited industry knowledge, is this type of action typical? I can't see that it is. The Big 3 only do buyouts when they're losing money... enter Ford. What gives?

Carlos predicted a flat year back in January. Wisely, he's trimming the fat before it becomes necessary. Detroit 3, you taking notes?

I had not heard about his prediction then... maybe I just have selective hearing. I'll applaud Carlos for this one.

Nissan is trying to save money to pay for all the gas that Skyline GT-R is using while in California. =)

If you guys actually read the press release, the buyouts are because the plant is shifting production towards less trucks and more Altimas, to match demand.
Altimas need a lot less labor than trucks to build, so now the plant has excess manpower.
Altima sales jumped up 39.7% (!) since the 2007 Altima came out!
That's a big shift in production requirement.

First they couldn't get enough people to agree to move from CA, now they have too many? LOL
Of course these are plant workers, not white collar workers at HQ.
