2007 Chicago Auto Show: Trucks, Trucks, Trucks

2008 Dodge Dakota

Chicago auto show traditionally is as much about trucks as cars. Last year, for instance, Toyota unveiled its critically important Tundra here. Chrysler continued the Chicago truck tradition today by unveiling its revised 2008 Dodge Dakota pickup and its new medium- and heavy-duty pickups for commercial fleets. Chrysler's product development chief Frank Klegon probably spent more time than he needed for this consumer crowd on the details of the commercial trucks -- a very specific market that the general audience pays little attention to and understands even less...

Still, Chrysler did what it could with the subject, creating a set with construction equipment and distributing press kits in a simple black lunch bucket. Lunch was delivered on pallets hauled by a Dakota truck and the side of bagged chips poured from the back of a commercial dump truck. â€” Michelle Krebs, Senior Industry Editor, AutoObserver

All intended to distract you from how lame the actual update is.

It would be nice to have a dump truck full of food but as for the "new "dakota i don't think so not too long ago dodge actually had a great exterior design makes you wonder what happened and that it now seems dodge is attempting to shove food in the faces of the press to try and avoid talikng about how bland this truck is

Were the chips spicy? 'Cause that would make a good joke.

The full-sized Dodge trucks still have some of the best looking exterior designs out there. A white crew cab 4x4 with the dressy Dodge optional wheels passed me on the interstate on my way in to work this morning. Their interiors haven't ever really done it for me, though the more recent stuff hasn't been as offensive to me either.

On the other hand I haven't cared for the Dakota's sheetmetal *or* interior *since* the last full redesign. The technical side of things has sounded pretty good though (other than fuel economy). The new touchups didn't address my biggest issue either- the funky narrow-waisted thing.
