Yes. I cannot follow this soap opera will 10-syllable German names any longer.

Interesting that Piech has swallowed some of his reputed pride and is now seriously checking out the competition. However, he's chasing a moving target.
How this will affect VW quality, and USA dealer attitude (are VW dealers in Europe as haughty as they are here??) remains to be seen.

I'm not familiar with VW offerings in Europe, but I don't imagine a truck would be a big hit. I doubt producing trucks purely for US consumption would be financially feasable. Does VW have factories in the US?

Or it's that he, being an engineer and engineers not necessarily known for their PR savvy, was just genuinely curious to knock around under there to see what the Japanese guys came up with. I really, really doubt VW is venturing into pickups.

I would never bet on it. 20 years ago, if you asked me to imagine city streets would clog up with German SUVs, I would call that world war III. 10 years ago, if you asked me if i wanted to buy a wagon that is taller than conventional wagon, i would ask "what for". If 10 years later, the US streets will be full of mini cars and luxury pickups that rich guys can evade their taxes and guilty of driving a gas guzzler with, why not?

maybe they're going to take another whack at the golf/rabbit pickup. im sure theres all kinds of things that the full sized tundra could lend to a front drive subcompact pickup.

maybe he just appreciates a good truck? ha ha i know everyone wants this to be a scandal but maybe he just wanted some answers to questions he had as simply a car fanatic.

Am I wrong or did VW have a truck concept a few years ago? To say that VW would never build a truck is probably incorrect considering the Tundra is only built and sold in America. I doubt VW would find enough buyers for a large pick-up but a Honda Rideline version...I say yes.
