No sane Boxster owner would subject his softop sportscar to this kind of cold weather punishment, so it's pretty obvious that the Porsche in our latest spy photos is a prototype. We guessing it's the 2009 Porsche Boxster as there's minor camouflage on the headlights and taillights. The front air dam has been reconfigured as well, but the rest of the car looks unchanged. Expect the usual level of horsepower and torque enhancements, although given there's already 280 horsepower 236 pound-feet of torque in the Boxster S, the need for even more power seems unwarranted.

Considering the the Boxster S has a 120hp deficit compared to the 400hp Corvette at a similar price, a major horsepower upgrade IS warranted. But I'm sure Porsche will continue to sell less for more.

the porsche offers something considerably different to the corvette, i think you could make the same american/european debate on any car, lets say the new bmw 335 costing more than the pontiac gran prix gxp although they put out similar power numbers, and costing as much as a gto that puts out 100 more hp, id still take the beamer any day.
I must say though they finally made the front look right with clasic porsche styling. The one thing i never liked about the old boxter was the silly swoopy lights but these are just perfect.

The GTO may have 100 more hp, but for some reason the 335 is faster/as fast and doesn't look like a Chevy Cavalier...
As for Boxster vs. Vette. These are completely different cars. The Vette is huge compared to the Boxster. Some peeps like that, some don't. Good thing we have a choice.

My Corvette was the worst POS I have owned, it NEVER ran right and was a rattletrap. My 987 Boxster is the best car I have owned. You might want to tell whoever wrote this article the 2007 Boxster S already has more HP, it has the same 3.4L 295 HP as the Cayman S. What Porsche should do is offer the 3.8L from the 997S.
