Detroit Auto Show: Volvo XC60 Concept

You can see right through it!

One of the most pleasant retro design touches we've seen on a new car in the last few years is the frameless glass hatchback on the tail of the C30. So we were happy to see the rear of the XC60 Concept, with its even bigger glass tailgate. It's a good look. But wait, the front and rear seats of the XC60 Concept have vertical channels right through the seat backs, meaning if you squat behind the XC60 you can see directly though the tailgate, the rear seat and the front seat all the way up to the steering wheel...

Weird. Volvo calls the channels pony-tail grooves or some such thing. The guys sitting next to us at the press conference thought they were better suited to plumbers. "For better ventilation," he said. The production version for plumbers and anyone else will go on sale early in 2009.  -- Daniel Pund

Looks like a great way to advertise your stuff so it gets stolen in the mall parking lot

I imagine the production model will have tinted windows.
