Detroit Auto Show: Hyundai goes air guitar on the Veracruz

Hyundai turned its press conference into a press concert with a little help from two of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's finest guitarists. Yeah, Detroit has a symphony orchestra, we couldn't believe it either.
Once all the string picking was over, out rolled the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz. It's a new midsize crossover which officially makes it the one millionth such vehicle introduced this year. Hyundai thinks is good enough to challenge big time players like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander.

We'll admit it looked pretty good in person, but it's going to take more than an Infinity sound system and dual zone climate control to take on Japan's finest. Set to go on sale later this year for a price "well below $30,000", the Veracruz is yet another Hyundai vehicle that its competitors will have a hard time ignoring.

I'm more shocked that there are guitarists of any kind in an orchestra.

When is the Veracruz hitting the Dealers? Does it have Navigation option unlike other Hyundais.

"Japan's Finest"? The highlander? Give me a break, this thing looks way more upscale than the Highlander. What about the Highlander suggests that its superior to this vehicle, or anything else in this class?

I love the interior, mostly. The dash looks busy yet barren. Funny how they managed that. The exterior....well, I gotta admit I'm a little overdosed on SUVs now. They're all starting to look alike to me.

That is one scrumptious looking interior, very Infiniti though, but still really nice, dont like the front end styling kinda awkward looking but the rear is quite nice

Based on paper, and was in the market, I'd get this over a Highlander or Pilot most def. Though I still like the eccentricity and overall package of the Murano....

i luv hyundai now.they moving in a good direction.a few couple of years ago no one was talking about hyundai, noow hyundai is selling good in northamerica and overseas. The azera, sante fe,accent and elantra are great cars. They know how to get buyers to like them by adding alot of safety features, but i always wonder why they never came with a navagation option??.I hope the veracruz comes with a navagation option, other than that im loving this crossover.

Why does everyone keep mentioning the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander as the class benchmarks? This class is filled with many excellent SUVs such as the Mazda CX-7/9, GM Lambas, Nissan Murano, and many more.

The Highlander should just be dropped as it is really old now, and why buy it when you could get a RAV4 that's newer, faster, looks better, cheaper and similarily sized? The Pilot is a decent vehicle I guess but it has no style at all and looks like tall big box on wheels. The interior is nothing great either.

Anyway, I know the Veracruz looks to be another Hyundai hit. Just hope sales of this and the Santa Fe dont conflict.
