While the information is still a bit sketchy at this time, it appears that Mercedes-Benz will be offering a diesel SUV here in the US of A. The new GL320 CDI is reported to get 20 mpg city / 25 highway, not bad for a large SUV, and surely will make this vehicle a lot more attractive to many more customers. The 7-speed automatic GL320 CDI's MSRP will start at $53,175.

That is fantastic fuel efficiency. Very impressive. Most get around 14/18 or less on gas.
Caveat: diesel around me costs a fortune, around $2.99 per gallon vs. maybe $2.35 per gallon for gasoline. That kills a large part (if not all) of the cost savings.

Keep in mind it doesn't even have standard leather seats. Still though, I'm impressed by the value of the GL. Costs about the same as the R-class.
