Jeep Trailhawk concept

Jeep will show this Trailhawk concept at the upcoming Detroit auto show.

Think (sort of) a modern-day Jeepster. While the original Jeepsters were 2-door convertibles, whereas this is a 4-door is (sort of) T-Top. Still it evokes a number of the sensibilities that the old Jeepster possessed...
Believe it or not, the Trailhawk sits on the 116" wheelbase Wrangler Unlimited chassis. That means solid axles, something old-time Jeepers regard as a must-have feature.

Here's Inside Line's take: "Trailchickadee" was apparently taken

I'd love to see it replace the Liberty. I'd buy one if the price was right.

The next Liberty will be based off the Dodge Nitro.

Interesting. I thought the Nitro was based off the current Liberty.

Think Nitro with Jeep-like square fender flares. Oh, you can also include a 4x4 with a low range, unlike the Nitro.
Both are on a longer wheelbase than the current Liberty. The new Liberty has a profile much more like the original Cherokee, which also influnced the new Commander's profile. There's one image here of the current Liberty and the new one side-by-side. The differences are pretty apparent.

The Nitro is based on the current Liberty.
The new Liberty is based on the Nitro chassis, so it is really still a Liberty at the core.
I'm concerned about Chrysler after driving the Nitro as it seems like it is already a five year old design compared to the competition.
Even with the Nitro added, it will be interesting to see if the Toledo North Assembly increases production from the roughly 180,000 vehicles a year or declines.
I believe Nitro is going to cannibalize sales from Jeep dealers.

The design looks good, but I'm not sold on a sporty-looking Jeep. Maybe it's the huge rims, but I just can't see this being offroad capable.
Also, didn't Jeep learn anything from GM with that removable roof over the cargo area?
