Toyota and Isuzu
have signed a memorandum of understanding stating they will start studying the synergic effects of business collaboration. Not sure where this might lead, as it seems to me that Isuzu, from a product standpoint, offers pretty much the same types of offerings as does Toyota. In any event this is good news for Isuzu I would think, as on the surface, this appears to be more of a benefit for them than for Toyota.
Here's a news update: Toyota buys 5.9% of Isuzu...

AN reported that "The companies plan to combine their diesel and alternative drivetrain efforts, perhaps leading to the development of vehicles powered by hybrid diesels. "
I've been calling for a hybrid-diesel for a while now. Hybrids are ideal in the city, diesels on the highway.

I think it's safer for Toyota to get involved in more different products, than trying to produce 500,000 Camrys. What if consumer tastes suddenly change? One single competitor releases a substantially better product? Diversifying activities is the better way to go.

I can understand aquiring Fuji HI, but Isuzu? I'd like to see Toyota latch onto Suzuki. I think some motorcycle DNA would go a long way for Toyota.

So GM dropped Isuzu, and now Toyota picks them up... I see a Duramax varient on the horizon for the Tundra. Since Isuzu is the one that initially designed the motor for GM anyway. Wonder what will happen to all the Chevy badged Isuzu heavy duty chassis trucks that are running around? (not the Kodiak variants)

I wonder if GM owns the Duramax now, though. Still, Isuzu brings them diesel expertise, especially large diesels.

So isuzus line up could possibly be: Oaisis being a sienna, Rodeo 4runner, Axiom rav4/highlander, Trooper sequoia, a Vehicross Fjcruiser... Its funny how all of these seem like a natural update for the the vehicles i mentioned... O an acender highlander! lol!
Oh and i said 1,000's of times how hybrid diesels would work out. ateixeira said it in the 1st post. Immagine a Prius with torque...

The only downside is can see to a diesel hybrid is diesel engine are not fond of being stopped and restarted all the time. It takes a lot more energy to start one then a gas engine.

To my knowledge, Toyota has already developed their own diesel.

Toyota does have diesels; none as good or clean as Isuzu's. Their unique expertise in bulding durable and efficient diesel engines and conquering ever harder diesel emissions standards has made Isuzu the top diesel manufacturer globally. Toyota (like a couple of other companies) have decided it is more cost effective to buy the best that to emulate it.

There are many small factors adding up to Isuzu producing cars for Toyota and also selling a version as an Isuzu in limited markets.
Isuzu's concept Gemini design may be the basis for the new vehicle.
