2006 LA Auto Show:
In his keynote speech opening the LA auto show, GM Chairman Rick Wagoner talked about energy diversity and electrically driven vehicles. "GM is expanding and accelerating development of electrically driven vehicles beyond the programs previously announced."
Wagoner emphasized the importance of "energy diversity," that is, multiple sources of motor fuels and electrical power. He said GM believes that ethanol is the most promising near-term alternative fuel, and announced that the Hummer division would offer this "bio-fuel" capability across all its models.
Even more critical, though, in his view, are electrically driven vehicles, a heading under which he lumps hybrids of various types, pure electrics and fuel-cell vehicles...
As another important step on the way to more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation, Wagoner said plug-in hybrids (drawing power from the grid) figured in GM's plans. The Saturn VUE hybrid is in active development to adopt plug-in capability, as battery technology improves.
He sounded upbeat and in command. A good way to be, considering.

GM is on a nice upswing. Funny how Chrysler seems to have changed places with GM, now they're the ones in trouble.
