Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. to enter US market

Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd . plans to enter US market by 2008. Early reports are that they plan to offer a pickup with a 2.6L turbodiesel and an SUV, probably using the same running gear.

Think early Jeep, and you have a pretty good idea of what many of their vehicles are like...

I'll be surprised if they make it.

I seriously doubt those diesels can even be sold in CA, so it may be 45 states only (and not in Canada, either). Mercedes could not meet emissions standards with their Bluetec, no way will these older designs pass emissions.

And good luck with crash tests.

OTOH, I'm sure they will be very affordable.

There would be a market for them, for sure. Jeeps are so pricey, so a cheap competitor would do well. I agree with ateixeira though. Emissions and crash tests are gonna be quite a challenge. I'm also wondering where they're gonna sell these. I imagine they'd need a partnership to sell on someone else's car lots.

I would love to see them if the price is right. Where else can you get a brand new CJ or Flat fender Jeep. :)

They would likely have to outsource for engines though to meet emmision standards, maybe a Mitsubishi or Isuzu engine.

No idea how these old designs will ever pass crash tests.

See the one that says Scorpio on front, from what my neighbor heard( on tv awhile back. They could be wrong, but I bet they aren't.Guess we have a year or less to find out?).That is what will most likely come here, not the old school designs.Check it out.
