L.A. Auto show: Acura Advanced Sedan Concept

Showing off the talents of their new Los Angeles-based design center, Acura showed their Advanced Sedan Concept. It's so far off from reality they didn't bother to give it a proper name. Or an engine.

Nevertheless, Acura insists we can expect future vehicles to adopt some of its styling cues. According to designer Dave Marek, the concept is an attempt to "rival a Bentley or Maybach in terms of performance, luxury and visual impact." The proportions are good, there's just the right amount of surface tension, and certain design elements successfully evoke other Acura models. The front end's toothy grille and low-slung, squinty headlamps bring to mind a bottom-feeding crustacean, though. If this represents the company's future direction, let's hope that they choose the right styling cues from this hit-and-miss concept.

I'd like to see this from some other angles, but from I see here, this thing couldn't be any uglier.

The back is truly disturbing: it has a butt-crack tail light treatment.

Let's keep this in the realm of "concept."
