Southern Motor Company is going to produce a street rod based on the early '50s-era Chevy pickup, called the Southern 358. The funny thing here is that it uses a Mustang V8. You would think a Chevy small-block would be the engine of choice.
The price is $55,000 (preordered), and is expected to be available in the second half of 2008...

Why would anyone pay $55K for a truck you could buy for $1K in good condition? Good idea, ridiculous price. Sounds like somebody is trying to make classic trucks worth a pretty penny at the auctions.

I agree, that price is insane. You can get one fully restored for less, and it would be worth a lot more.
And putting a Ford engine in there really kills any idea of "value".

$1k? You're a little out of touch on the price of classics (even copies). Watch Barret-Jackson sometime for an eye opener.
I agree about the Ford engine. Dumb move on their part.

In reference to my previous post, I'd like to emphasize "good" condition, not mint. If you know anyone who is interested in a '50s model Chevy truck for $55K, lemme know.
