SEMA: Chevrolet Silverado 427

It was hardly the most outlandish truck in the Chevrolet display area, but the Silverado 427 was one of the few worth a closer look. The 427 is essentially the Chevrolet equivalent of the Dodge Ram SRT-10, as it uses the same LS7 V8 as the Z06 Corvette. Displacing 7.0-liters, or 427 cubic inches, the LS7 sends 505 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. Combined with the short bed, regular cab bodystyle, the 427 is guaranteed to be as fast as a Silverado gets. And that's a lot cooler than any fancy paintjob or huge stereo.

It is too bad that this truck will probably never see production. I have always been intrigued by the Ram SRT-10 and the Lightning, but since I am a GM fan, I could never see myself in one of those trucks. I could see myself in this... !

Yeah I agree. Chevy (and it's fans) really missed out on the sport truck scene. A Lightning is a very intimidating truck, but a Corvette-sourced truck? That would give GM some notoriety.

This is not my style but I bet GM would sell every single one it made, easily.

GM will never build this truck in my opion because it WOULD sell every one of them and it WOULD be the most popular truck on the road. Im a huge GM fan but they never seem to build what the people want.

all you guys are crazy, Chevy would build this truck, but it would not have a 427 under the hood, it may be the preveiw of the SS

Seems to me GM is late for the party yet again. The Lightning and the SRT10 already did their shot at fame. The world said "Hey, that's cool" and then moved on.

Like the HHR it showed up for the party just as everyone else was putting on thier coats and going home.

The HHR is selling pretty well, actually.

And, a really sharp interior to round out the whole package. A lot of folks might actually want to drive this sports car with a bed. I don't believe the sport truck trend is anywhere near over with.

If Gm were to actually build this, I would suspect that it would not have the LS7, but rather a variant of the 6.0 LS2 that is found in the current Trailblazer SS and the SSR. Not anywhere near as potent as the LS7, but still better than the previous attempt at an SS with only a slightly modified 6.0 stuck into a heavy ponderous AWD platform.

The party never started for the lightning, SRT, or the Chevy SS. Sounds good in theory but none of the fast trucks have ever made their sales goals. It wouldn't be worth the production costs to sell 10,000 of these a year.

gmguy111 says:

I agree this maybe a preview for the SS model but with a majority of society especially soccer moms picky about gas mileage it might not be a hit. the SRT folded, the lighting fizzed out, and the SS models never really met their sales goals even though they did post strong sales.

estreka says:

The Lightning only fizzled because Ford has such long production cycles. Who's gonna buy a new niche vehicle that looks just like the one produced 5 years ago?

Aonther 50 to 60k price tag. If I was going to spend that kind of money it would be on a vette. Chevy just cant get this one right. The Lightning will always be KING. Brand new for 32k and a grand for mods and you have a low 12 sec pick up. It just dont get much better than that.

I just saw this truck last weekend at the Richmond NASCAR race and it is amazing. From what I have heard it is planned for production and the SRT-10 and Lightning don't even come close to this truck. 0-60 in 3.6 and 1/4 mile under 12. This was the main info I saw listed that wasn't found online.

This truck the way it is is perfect. I'd gladly pay 50-60k with a 30% interest rate to own this. Ford, ford is a joke. My 5.3 Texas edition silverado will pull your powerstroke diesels. Our 6.0 early model SS will outrun your lightning. If chevy made this, it would without a doubt beat the srt-10. Our blocks are better than their srt blocks. Only if they has the power to match we would be greater, the 2010 camaro SS will prove that. And yes your mustangs will be the chearleaders for that race. Build it chevy, shut these no-knowing punks up!
