FV Report: Automotive News weekly update

The future vehicle news was sparse in this week's edition of Automotive News. The most notable piece of information came from an article discussing Bentley. Seems as though the British company is working up a coupe version of its top-of-the-line Arnage sedan and it could be called the Havana. CEO Andrew Stuart didn't directly confirm its existence, but he did note that Bentley currently has sedan, convertible and coupe versions of the Continental GT. Look for the new coupe to show up as a lightly disguised concept in Geneva next spring.
It's no secret that Chevrolet is developing a high-powered version of the HHR, but up until now no one from GM has said much. AN reporter Rick Krantz talked to one GM official who openly acknowledged its existence yet declined to offer up any statistics. The most he could get out of Cheryl Catton, director, car marketing and retail integration, for Chevrolet was a promise that it would be a credible vehicle in terms of performance. Like we said, no one at GM has said much.

Finally, it looks as though Mitsubishi's electric car project is still going strong despite a few changes in philosophy. Instead of going the more radical approach of individual motors at each wheel, Mitsu's answer to the Prius will use a single motor to power the rear wheels. It all comes down to cost, as Mitsubishi officials said it was easier to adapt the single motor configuration to an existing minicar that forms the basis for the project. The first prototypes are expected to start fleet testing next year so actual public sales won't happen until 2008 at the earliest.

Let's see HHR SS vs. Caliber SRT-4. While we're at it let's see Ford bring SVT back to the Focus lineup.
