Shanghai Motor Co., which bought the rights to the Rover nameâor so they thoughtâhave just launched a new car brand in China called the Roewe
or Rong Wei (the glorious prestige). Apparently there was some sort of trademark snafu which resulted in the name change. Confused? Welcome to the club...
The car is based on the Rover 75, and will called the 750E, will debut at the Beijing Motor Show in November. Roewe plans to export the car to Europe and the USA.
So will a UK-inspired car built in China succeed in the world market? Tough call...

I'm sure they will learn quickly, but a bad name like "Wrong Way" can set them back a decade or so.
