It had long been rumored that both Toyota and Nissan had been developing heavy-duty pickups to battle the 3/4-ton and 1-ton Detroit entries. Inside Line is now reporting that these HD trucks from both companies have been put on hold, at least for the time being.
I guess one could speculate as to any number of reasons as to why. My sense is that because of the highly volatile fuel prices, that both Nissan and Toyota want to make sure their 1/2-ton models succeed first before committing to something larger and even more speculative...
I have no doubt that both companies will continue with development of these trucks, so that that they will be ready if and when they decide to commit.
