Military coup in Thailand disrupts Japanese auto production

The military coup that just occurred in Thailand has disrupted auto factories in that country. Nissan, Mazda and others called off work for the day. I think the bigger question will be is what does this mean for the long term? Will any auto maker want to invest in a country with an unstable political situation?

The King is revered and if he says the new guy (Boonyarataklin) is going to run things in the interim, then the shooting match is pretty much over. A report I saw yesterday said the new guy was the one who called for a countrywide day off too, so some of the factory closings may have been in deference to that. The country was already at somewhat of an impasse with the parliament dissolved, so this could be good news for the automakers and other investors within a few months to a year.
