Cars, via e-mail/text messages, telling us it's time to go to the car doctor

Technology never ceases to advance. Now there is news that we may be getting e-mails and/or text messages from our vehicles, letting us know it time to replace the fuel pump.

As the link says, this has been around for some time, but is in search of a good business model to make it successful.

"I personally believe it is going to be in every car...
It is just a matter of time," said Karl-Thomas Neumann, the head of German supplier and tiremaker Continental AG's automotive division.

I get emails from OnStar with my GMC. I don't know the extent of the diagnostic abilities, but the marketing material says:

If your Check Engine light comes on, push the blue OnStar button and an OnStar Advisor can:
Run a GM Goodwrench On Demand Diagnostics check of your engine.
Tell you whether to continue driving or find a safe place to stop and wait for Roadside Assistance.
Contact a Roadside Assistance provider with your exact location.
Assist you in scheduling a service appointment for you if necessary.

Sounds good to me.
