California sues 6 carmakers over greenhouse gases

This should be interesting to watch: The state of California is suing Ford, General Motors, Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Chrysler; charging that the greenhouse gases from their cars have cost the state millions of dollars.

So, what do you think will happen here? Does this lawsuit have legs to stand on? Or is it just another grab for headlines by environmentalists?

No legs. So the latter.

It'd make about as much sense and they'd have about as much luck suing all the drivers in the state of California for knowingly purchasing and operating all those vehicles, causing the smog. I'd love to see the folks behind this forced to stop using automobiles altogether (and jets, and any other form of technology that produces atmospheric pollution) though..

Let's see - Rep. Governor, Dem. AG (who filed the suit), November elections just around the corner. The whiff of politics is in the dirty air.

This sounds a bit like payback for the automakers - they've been fighting implementation of regulations from 2002 CA legislation that required emission cuts in cars and trucks.

But if it keeps the snowpack around longer, I’m all for it!

Where will it end? If they follow this path they'll be torching cars and slashing SUV tires like in France. Glad I live almost 2k miles away from there!

hmm...every car sold or registered in California gets the government's stamp of approval when it has to pass the most stringent emissions tests in the country. After the state gives the car it's blessing, they're gonna turn around and sue the car company? Ha! give me a break. One more reason for California to get the rep as being full of a bunch of looney left wing wackos

Definately a political fiasco. I was especially suprised to see Honda and Toyota listed among the accused. No 2 companies have reduced pollution more than them. Tell ya what, I'll believe this suit is real when CHiPs start writing tickets to car owners.
