Isuzu
has just announced that they will be adding two 2WD pickups to their current model lineup: an i-370 4x2 Extended Cab and an i-370 4x2 Crew Cab. Snippet: In announcing the new models, J. Terry Maloney, president and COO of Isuzu Motors America, said, "Some of our customers have said they needed the room of a crew cab but without the off-highway capability of four-wheel drive. And some of our customers have asked for the extra power of a five-cylinder engine in the versatile extended-cab body style...
Does anyone really care? Year-to-date sales, as of July are 5,430, which is -35.7% over the same period last year. Does Isuzu really think adding these 2WD trucks will help reverse their sales slide here?

It might help Isuzu sales if their salespeople actually wanted to sell them. The last two times I visited the nearest Isuzu dealership, the salespeople kept dragging me over to their Toyota's. I had to ask FOUR times before the one guy was willing to let me sit inside an Isuzu, and then he kept badmouthing it. Instead of asking to go on a test drive, I finally got mad enough and left. - Isuzu also needs a brand identity and some fresh ads.

Isuzu will disappear, it's more a matter of when vs. if.

They probably will, but they might return again. From what I've read, Isuzu is trying to buy back the stake GM has in it. I think if they stay independent, and come back swinging with a diesel in every model they sell, cars and trucks both, they'll have success.

That could work for them rangner. But GM has depended on Isuzu diesels, so it might be tricky to convince GM to let that part of the business go back.
