It looks like a new power war is in high gear within pickup truck circles, and I'm not talking about a horsepower war (although that's occurring too). No, this time I'm talking about towing power, and really more to the pointâbraggin' rights
. First Nissan and Ford went head-to-head when the (then) new F-150 and Titan debuted, each claiming around 9400 pound towing. Then when the new Tundra was introduced on the auto show circuit this past winter, the ante was raised a bit higher to, in Toyota-speak â"10,000-pounds-plus" towing...
And here's some good news for Expedition fans:
Snippet: Last week, Ford announced that the redesigned 2007 Ford Expedition would launch in September with suggested retail prices an average of $4,300 lower than 2006 models, and a starting price of only $29,995, including destination.

Are they actually making changes to the 2007 F-150 to achieve the new ratings, or is it (like with the F-150 / Titan thing) simply a numbers increase? The latter would seem to indicate that the F-150s have been this capable the whole time. Even more interesting would be if GM bumps its own numbers a bit more for yet another *trump*.
(I'm actually not surprised, as most trucks are easily capable of exceeding the ratings their manufacturers list. It's usually a case of conservative numbers to prevent liability if someone gets stupid..)

There should be an big * beside that 10.5K tow rating. I just picked up an '07 F-150 brochure, and that figure is only available on the 4x2 regular cab with the HD payload rating. That vehicle has an 8100 GVW, which really makes it a 3/4-ton truck.
All other '07 F-150s, including others with the HD payload option, are rated to tow 9500 pounds or less, depending on configuration.

So that truck is more or less the equivalent of the Chevy 1500HD (no longer produced with the 08 models, I guess)?

Actually it's an 8200 GVW, but yeah, much like the 1500HD. They've had the 8200 GVW option since the the current F-150 dubuted, so that's not new. They've just tweaked the 4x2 regular cab the w/8200# specs a bit. It used to tow 9500 or 9900(?) before.
So much for truth in advertising...
