The German edition of Autoblog has uncovered a Mercedes-Benz hybrid
; and it's not a bottom-feeder Benz either, but an S-Class, and should be on sale sometime in 2008. I guess you can thank Lexus, with their upcoming LS600h. I doubt the Benz-brid would exist if not for the Lexus, or at least not be put on a fast track 2008 debut. Unlike the "full hybrid" LS600h, the Mercedes version is rumored to be a "mild hybrid," and is using a 3.5L V6 rather than a 4.3L V8 like the Lexus...

I heard about this just yesterday night actually on emercedesbenz.com and it sounds like a great idea even though they did like only do this because of lexus and i'm thanking Lexus cuz i'm probably gonna buy a M-B S-class hybrid if they come out. And i think that it was smarter to go with a V6 hybrid insead of V8(just my opinion).

So does the new S class have a LWB version also or does MB just offer 1 WB? The LS600h will be based on the LWB LS so I really dont know if these 2 cars will be direct competitors, but Lexus claims that it will boast best V8 class fuel economy with the performance of the V12 competition.
But what interests me most is the fact that the German car manufactureres are responding to Lexus and Infiniti so quickly. I mean the G35C with nearly 300hp and the Lexus IS350 with 305hp, the BMW whips up a twin turbo 335C. Then there is the hybrid story above, interesting indeed.

Not true. The S-Class has always been offered with 2 wheelbases. However we usually only get the LWB version. Years back we used to get both versions.
