Mazda ship in trouble off the coast of Alaska

A cargo vessel carrying 4700 Mazdas is foundering in rough seas off the coast of Alaska. Most of the vehicles on board are the high-demand Mazda3 and the new CX7 SUV. The value of the cars is estimated to be about $117.5 million.

Coast Guard has no immediate plans to send personnel to investigate.

``The ship is in rough waters and it's still too dangerous to put our crew members on board to investigate,'' said Coast Guard Petty Officer Eric Chandler, based in Anchorage, Alaska. ``Also, the ship is in international waters, so we wouldn't immediately have a reason to investigate unless we suspected there had been some criminal activity.''
