Chrysler expects $600 million 3rd quarter loss as sales stall

Chrysler expects a $600 million 3rd quarter loss as customers shy away from trucks and SUVs, and towards more fuel-efficient vehicles.

I don't know about you, but when the redesigned Durango and Dakota were announced, I said to myself, what were they thinking? Both these vehicles I think are just awful looking, and the Dakota cousin, the Mitsubishi Raider, is worse than awful looking. I'm not especially fond of the Ram's new front end styling either...
So I'm not one bit surprised that these vehicles are rusting on dealer lots. In an era of sky-high fuel prices, poor styling does nothing but rub salt into the wound here...

It's a good thing they've been successful with their cars, but how long can Hemi-powered vehicles with lousy gas mileage (read the Inside Line long-term road test blogs of the Hemi-powered Jeep Commander) continue selling well?

First of all this sucks...Second I happen to find the Durango and Dakota good looking in terms of styling and I much rather the front end on the new Dodge Ram...but I agree that the Raider is awful for styling...And for the Hemi vehicles selling well I have no idea!

Coincidentally, I always thought the Raider was the best looking of the 3, although the refreshed '07 Durango is a welcome improvement from past years.

Dodge trucks tend to be at the bottom of the pack in terms of gas mileage, so they're being hit the hardest.
