New Chrysler 4.0 OHC 24-V V6

The 2007 Chrysler Pacifica will get an optional 4.0L, OHC, 24-valve V6 . This engine is related to the smaller 3.5 V6. In fact, the bore remains the same, but it has been stroked to get it to 4.0 liters. This engine will also be paired with a new 6-speed automatic...
I think it's safe to assume that this engine will make its way into the upcoming all-new minivan, when it debuts.

Snippet: The new engine uses a long stroke for improved low rpm torque, which provides quick and impressive engine response around town. The 4.0-liter V-6 engine produces 255 hp @ 6000 rpm and 265 lb. ft. of torque @ 4200 rpm, which is 15 more lb. ft. of torque at peak power rpm, and as much as 35 lb. ft. more torque throughout the power curve than the previous 3.5-liter V-6 engine.

“The 2007 Pacifica’s new 4.0-liter, V-6 engine improves the torque curve in the low- to mid-range for more pep during acceleration from idle,” said Bob Lee, Vice President – Powertrain Engineering. “Reductions in powertrain noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) also rank the new Pacifica among the best-in-class.”

Seems like an old Chrysler trick. I remember when the did that to the 2.2l engines, went to 2.5l. All stroke made up the difference.

The 3.8l engine is still the base engine. So this makes a lot more sense. Before, the smaller 3.5l was an upgrade engine, and that confused a lot of consumers, for sure.

Now it's 3.8l, or upgrade to a 4.0l. Makes much more sense. Fuel economy could beat the 3.8l given the tranny has more ratios, too.

The 3.8 is the old OHV engine, this and the 3.5 are OHC engines.

This is one weak 4.0 L. Other companies do this with a 3.5 L.
