Add this one to the "nice, but we'll never see it" file. It's the European-spec Honda Civic Type R. It was shown in concept form at the Geneva auto show earlier this year and from the looks of this prototype spotted outside the Nurburgring test track the production version won't be any different. For more details and pictures, check out the full story on the 2008 Honda Civic Type R .

Ah... the Euro-Civic, but this time in Type R-spec. This is one one of my favorite pocket rockets, bar none.
My understanding is the European Civic is based on the Fit platform, and not the US Civic platform. The rear suspension is more Fit-like than (US) Civic-like.

I don't think the engine is upgraded from the Si that we get here. It's mostly a suspension package, I believe.

Saw a video about this body style a while back. This sexy little beast has four doors, nice setup, and the diesel carries around 138 hp, 8.5 sec 0-60 and 55mpg. While the US Si coupe is pretty darn nice, I would much prefer the diesel version for hauling the family around. If you feel like drooling http://www.honda.co.uk/car/

Given the fact that the new European Civic Type-R hatchback probably uses the same K20Z3 engine as the US-market Civic Si coupé, I don't see any performance advantages of the Type-R over the Si. Expect 0-60 in the 6.8-second range and a top speed of around 135-140 mph.
