Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen will remain until 2010

It had been rumored that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (Gelandewagen ) would be replaced by the new GL. Well, that's not so, as Inside Line reports that this cult classic will remain for at least another four years. Expect to see a freshened up version introduced at the Paris auto show this September.

Snippet:  However, sales rose last year — more than 5,000 were built last year despite the model's age...
That made it a no-brainer to keep the cult cross-country car in production until 2010. The G-Wagen went on sale in 1979 and nearly 200,000 have been built since then at the Magna Steyr factory in Graz, Austria. The car has basically stayed the same, except for power: The original G-Wagen had a 72-horsepower engine, and the current top-line AMG version has 476 hp of supercharged V8 grunt.

Why not keep selling it? The Bling Bling crowd keeps buying these up, let 'em.

I can't think of any other rig, except perhaps a full size van like a Ford Econoline, that still has real external rain gutters.

There are plenty of other vehicles with external rain gutters that aren't exported here.
