In carpool lanes, hybrids find few friends

You would think that in trendsetting California hybrids would be welcomed in car pool lanes. Well, apparently that's not the case. Read more here.

Snippet: Hybrid motorists even have a term for the ill will: "Prius backlash."

SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT. I don't care if it a Prius or a Carrera, or if it is the fast lane or the carpool lane, if you are driving slower than a daisy-picking granny, move your slow ass to the right.

I agree with genius163. It's all kinds of vehicles being slow on the left, whether it's an active carpool lane or not. All of them are a pain, but maybe if you're stuck behind a slow SUV you can't tell that there's no one in front of it.

However, if the carpool lane is empty and the next lane is going 30mph, it's rather dangerous to go fast. Someone's bound to cut in front of you. (In Northern California there aren't double yellow lines separating the carpool lane from the others, like there are in SoCal. Do people down there abide by the lines?)

While I agree that slower traffic should always stay to the right, what about HOV lanes where there's only one lane? If the speed limit is 65 mph and the person blocking the HOV lane is going exactly 65 mph, is there a problem? The people who are stuck would probably say there is, but going the maximum speed limit should be allowed.

This is sort of like when I'm stopped at a "No turn on red" intersection when the light is red, and people behind me honk to try to get me to turn on the red. Just because you have no qualms breaking the law doesn't mean you have the right to pressure others to do the same.

The problem with carpools lanes in California is that people think they are speed lanes. I see people driving way too fast in those lanes. Slow down everybody.
