Volvo shows I-SAM big-rig hybrid concept

Volvo has just debuted a heavy-duty hauler hybrid called I-SAM .

The powertrain consists of a combined starter motor, drive motor and alternator, and an electronic control unit. I-SAM interacts with Volvo’s I-Shift automatic gearshifting system. The batteries are recharged by the diesel engine and whenever the brakes are applied...
Reportedly the fuel savings are 35%.

The company hopes to have an actual hybrid big truck ready to market in a few years.

Trucks spend little time in the city, I wonder how much benefit this would have if you're out on the highways most of the time?

Depends on the truck. Many are used strictly in the cities for deliveries, and rarely get out on the highway.
