Toyota has thrown off the gloves and dived in headfirst. Even though they've been testing the waters for quite some time with previous iterations of the Tundra, this new version doesn't make any bones about its mission in the market. Toyota wants a bigger piece of the pie, and I think they'll get it....

I agree. It looks like Toyota has finally designed and is going to produce a real full-sized truck competitor, including all of the many variations that full-size buyers expect, the hauling and towing capacity, overall spaciousness (and then some!) as well as the powertrain options.
So much for the argument put forth by all those questioning GMs investment into their full-sized products right now- Isn't this new Tundra (and it's many variations) from Toyota, the typical flag-carrier for the arguments these people put forth, proof that this market isn't disappearing any time soon?
And I 100% agree that Toyota is going to finally get a larger piece of the truck pie with this Tundra.

They're almost OVER-compensating.
I've said before, and I still think they're copying Dodge's strategy with their size approach to this segment.
The extended cab is almost a Crew, and the Crew will be massive.
I wouldn't want to park this thing, though.

Its sort of nice looking truck from the outside, but that center console is hideous. It looks two different consoles, from two different vehicles placed right next to each other.

The new Toyota Tundra looks nice! From the humble days of the T-100 to today's Tundra is quite of a progress. The dashboard is not the best (yuck) but the whole truck looks muscular. Power choices I do believe that 5.7 liter engine is close to 5.8 liter (sounds like Nascar engine size huhmmm...). Horse power target 350 HP with 400 lbs of torque. Enough to market the truck for the next level size: 3/4" ton.

Well, I saw the Tundra yesterday. I can't give any real opinions on it because no one was allowed to sit in it. However, it is about the size of the f-150 and seems to have a real deep bed. No numbers other than 5.7L so no one can say much at this point. Looks alright, though.

Looking at the photos of the truck around the net again today I realized that the only real turnoff for me about the new Tundra is the dash. Besides the double-dash look (gray on one half, black on the other), the actual instrument cluster area is nasty too. Individual guages like this can be cool, but the way the area around them is laid out it looks half finished. I think there should be some other colors / textures to the surrounding area to separate it from the rest of that sea of cheap looking gray material.

do you think the replacement for the previous access cab version will be available with the 4.7L engine and 6 speed automatic, or 5.7l coupled with the 6 speed and the 4.7l coupled with the 5 speed.?

Toyota Tundra news. You can all take this for what is worth. I was at the Dallas Auto Show this past weekend and one of the Product specialist told me that Toyota will show the Tundra in Texas at the state fair this fall, but he said you may see it in dealerships before then. I asked for horsepower ratings and he paused hoping I would say what I have read online and then I gave him a range of what has been shown on various websites. he then said he was thinking it was around 345 horsepower. Who knows? The product specialist if you talk to different ones you get different stories.
