Toyota played it straight with the introduction of the next-generation 2007 Toyota Tundra. No goofy skits. No stale jokes by blue suited executives. Just one huge truck that Toyota President Jim Press called, "the biggest, boldest, bad-ass truck in Toyota history." Here are some interesting specs to consider. Toyota didn't give horsepower or torque numbers for the new 5.7-liter V8, but the engine will use a six-speed automatic and give the Tundra a maximum tow rating of over 10,000 pounds. A 4.7-liter V8 and 4.0-liter V6 will also be available. There will be three different body styles. The four door truck in the pictures is called a double cab but it will replace the current Tundra access cab in the lineup. An even larger crew cab will be introduced later. There will also be three different bed lengths and three trim levels for a total of 30 different styles. Sales will begin in January of 2007.

Looks like the went with Dodge's strategy as far as the cab lengths are concerned.
The rear seat looks too upright, I wonder how comfy that will be.
The rear door handle is odd, why not match the front?
And that dash has a lot of shiny painted plastic, why not make it matte black?

Well, it's no Dodge Ram in styling, but the basic design is very good. Nice high beltline. The wheels are probably exactly what will be on the production trucks.
It looks like that door opens independently from the front door.
With "over 10k towing", the frame and engine must be impressive.
I wonder what rating the 4.7 will get, as the new 4.0 is almost as strong right now.

What's going on with the dash?? Looks like two center consoles - tell me that won't be a pain to operate.
Other than that and the rear window, Toyota's got a strong contender it looks like. Of course, the Titan looked like a strong contender as well...

Styling is decent on the outside, but I'll still take an F150 or a Ram.
I dont like the interior. It's got three different colors which looks pretty haphazard to me. Make up your mind Toyota, make it beige with silver accents or black with silver accents.
I wonder how powerful the engine will be?
And also, how will the new Sierra/Silverado stack up to this?

I agree, the dash is a bit confusing with the silver and black creating a clear dividing line. Maybe if we all complain enough, it will be fixed by the time this hits showrooms next January...=)
It's nice to see Toyota pulling out all the stops finally and producing a truck that is actually bigger than some of the domestic competition. That towing capacity certainly eclipses most of them as well.
Let's see: Toyota reliability, Toyota interior quality and now it's got the size and power it was lacking. This will be some stiff competition for the domestic Big Three, not to mention Nissan's Titan as well.
I wonder if Honda will come out to play, too? =)

I think Toyota may be trying to visually "group" certain functions together, hence the color break. For example, items pertaining to driving (4x4, etc.) to the left in the silver; and secondary items (radio, climate control, etc., to the right in the black.

Not feellin' the dash either, but with enough negative press, it will change.
What won't change is this will be almost as powerful as the 6.2 coming to the Silverado.
With the Navigator release, it is obvious the F-150 will be sitting with the Triton for a while.
Or they may "Pull a Zephyr", and launch the Navigator, then totally reverse the engine and name, making a brand new truck.......therby replacing a brand new truck. I think it's part of that "New Math".....

This truck looks like a winner to me. If the new 5.7L V8 has considerable more horsepower and torque than the new 4.6L V8 from lexus, Toyota will run out of capacity before it can get this truck to the market. If this new V8 has more than 400hp, Toyota should be able to take half of those had been fired by the American big three early this year.

I think it's finally a truly worthy contender, with everything needed to compete on anyone's scorecard if they are shopping full-sized trucks.
But that dash is mugly, period. And if by Toyota interior quality, you mean fit and ergonomics, it's on par with GMs latest. But if you mean materials, that gray painted stuff looks extremely cheap. Truthfully, the overall layout down the center stack (regardless of color scheme) looks a bit whacked so far as design.

Forgot to add- loved everything else in the interior but the dash. The seats and door panels look great, materials and color included. And the rear seatback angle isn't too vertical at all- just about perfect. Assuming the rumor is correct and that the show truck is the replacement for the "extended cab" variant of Tundra and another even larger cab version is coming as a crew cab model, it's actually got terrific rear seating.

Looks great. Although I would of liked the design more if it stayed truer to the concept. Now if only Toyota would release a brand new Supra with that 5.7 liter engine.

I have been a loyal Toyata Fan/Consumer and have been awaiting the arrival of the new Tundra but that dash is butt ugly. Chevy and Ford definetly has Toyota beat in the interior stylying department. Toyota need to fire who ever designed the interior of this truck. I thin I will have to get a Silverado as I couldn't stand to look at that ugly dash for the next 5-10 years. And the wheels why such small whells on a truck this size. Doge and Chevy I know offer 18-20" wheels they look so puney. What gives?
