Understanding BMW's Bangle

Not everything Chris Bangle told us about designing cars was obscure. I even liked a couple of his word images. He talked, for instance, about the complex dance among three partners that has to carry on, and always keep moving to remain fresh. The partners are 1) the vehicle's underpinnings (the mechanics, the architecture), 2) the brand (the product's intention and role), and 3) the design (its look and feel, its identity)...
I can dig that.

Also, he noted that if you take all the designed surface area of all the automobiles that have been manufactured through the 100-plus years of the car's history, you get something like 10 billion square meters of sculpted surface, surely humankind's greatest artistic effort.

He's an interesting fellow.
