2007 Audi S6

Audi is bringing to enthusiasts the 2007 Audi S6 which packs a V10 to compete against the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG.  A six-speed Tiptronic sends the power to all four wheels via Audi's "quattro" all-wheel-drive system - and the engine gives you 420 hp to whip around corners.

For Audi fans - we are hearing the Audi S6 has been worth the wait.

So, an "S6" packing a V10 and nearly as much horspower as the last RS6 mustered with a V8 and twin turbos? Sounds like a fun car - aurally and dynamically!

Hopefully, Audi will see fit to make their wonderful DSG transmission either standard or optional in such a performance vehicle.

Unfortunately (and sadly), it is almost assumed that the S6 will not enjoy the universal appeal and recognition that the M5 commands.

As usual, Americans have it wrong again regarding Audi. The S6 is not geared as competitor for the M5. It is set to be a mid high performance sports sedan slated for those that want a bit more power and sportiness than the A6 4.2, but less than the upcoming RS6 (sort of a poor man's RS6). The upcoming RS6 is the true rival to the M5 or the AMG version. The RS6 will have around 550 bhp. So, let's get the facts straight please.

I fail to see how incorporating a V10 (vice the V8 in the 4.2) engine that packs a full liter of extra displacement qualifies as "a bit more power", but to each his/her own I guess!

Regardless, since all "we Americans" have is the prospect of an S6 for now, it will naturally get compared to the M5 and E55.

Because the same engine is in the S8 and Lamboghini Gallardo, Audi should bump up the power for all: 450hp for the S6, 500 for S8, 550+ for Gallardo.

S6 - Comparisons will be made to the M5 and E55, regardless. Is Audi even doing a new RS6? Since the RS4 has the same 420hp but from a V8, it's the more "sensible" choice. It weighs less so therefore goes faster.

I drive an '06 A8, which is a great car, but Audi really needs to step it up in the horsepower department if they want to be taken serious. They already set the standard on interior quality. The '06 7-Series has 360hp, the '07 S-Class has 382hp, and the new LS460 has like 380hp. MB and Lexus can fight for bloated boat supremacy, but Audi has to match or exceed BMW for luxury performance honors.

What happened to Audi? The front end looks like a chrysler!

tinamarie, agreed, the gaping grates in the nose is too much. I'd like to see a wire-mesh like Jaguar's R line or Bentley GT.
