Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL to be axed

One of the first examples of GM's belt tightening will be the dropping of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL, the long-wheelbase versions of the midsize SUVs.

My reaction: What took so long? They are just an awful response to the other midsize SUVs with 3-row seating. Did you know that the wheelbase on these "midsize" utes is 129 inches?..
That's one inch less than the wheelbase of a Suburban! Most other like SUVs in this class have wheelbases around 113 inches.

That huge wheelbase translates into an ungodly turning circle. Forget about going off road as the breakover angle is perhaps the worst in the industry.

i saw one of these ungainly beasts flip over going no more than 30mph on my way to work in L.A. one morning. as i was running over to it a girl crawled out of the window and ran screaming to the side of the road. she was, no doubt, more in shock than i. the roof was caved in waaaaay more than it should have been. what a dangerous pile of crap.

This happened to my daughter yesterday after being hit on the side at an intersection. The car landed on the top, and she crawled out of a window. The air bags did not activate and the roof of the trailblazer was caved in. The driver of the Infinity car was going about 40mph when she ran the redlight and hit my daughter's 2005 Chevy trailblazer. It was a miracle she did not have serious injuries. Now, I am interested in other accidents like this. I am not aware of the safety record and was shocked to see this happen to someone in my family.Have there been many accidents like this? Should the air bags have worked?
