10K miles without an oil change? That seems a bit excessive to me; I would think the first oil change would be recommended at 3K-5K miles and then maybe 10K afterwards.

I wonder why in some (German) cars you have to add some oil before the oil change? Is it losing more and/or requires more oil to operate?
Looking at that link you are at the max 10K miles that are for normal use. If it goes much over that then maybe time to check it even does have a reminder system:-) or there's an issue with the reminder.

Maybe it is a wives tale, but I thought on a new car an oil change should be done at about 2500 miles to get any initial break-in impurities out of the system. Subsequent oil changes can be done at normal intervals in accordance with the manual or the car's notification system.

An online car mag up here in Canada has a lt Explorer V-6 awd ... best fuel economy they've seen is 15 l/100km (15.6mpg), and 17 l/100km is frequent (13.8mpg). This is suburban driving in winter (below freezing, as always up here). Sure hope the Ecoboost does better than that!
