I like heat. Our 2012 Audi A8L has a heated steering wheel. I'm happy.
I'll admit I didn't know our A8 had a heated steering wheel until I RTMed. I never felt it past that large switch for adjusting the position. It was a surprise find. And a good reason to always RTM.

I have a new 5 series with this feature. Didn't want it but it came with the car. It really adds a layer of luxury that propels the driver into feeling regal.

Does it actually ever get cold enough in southern California to need a heated steering wheel or seats? Or perhaps cold is a relative term in that anything under 60 degrees is cold for west coasters?

it's a myth that it doesn't get cold in so cal. We have huge mountains here 5k feet surrounding the basin. 11k feet 2 hours outside the city to the east. Too many reruns of Baywatch have people thinking it's surfing 24/7. This is not Miami.
