2012 Audi A8L: Clean Windshield

As Jay mentioned earlier today, I'm also a fan of a freshly cleaned windshield and I often use the washers when I get into a long-term car. (Can you tell it rained here today with two wiper posts?)

I have come to like cars that offer a gentle mist that blankets the window. Our Audi A8 is quite the opposite. It shoots a high-powered stream in several places on the window. Seems a little old-school, low-brow for a $100,000+ car. Although to its credit, it doesn't obscure the view out the glass like a full-cover spray.

How do the washers in your car work?

Here is video of the Audi A8 wipers in action:

How do windshield wipers work in my car??? Same exact way as in other cars - an electrical water pump draws windshield washer fluid from special reservoir and sprays it on predetermined areas of my car's windshield, then the wipers wipe it down... Seriously, what kind of answer do you expect? About the spray pattern in my particular model? What difference does it make as long as the car owner is satisfied with end results???
P.S: Me thinks IL is getting more and more into "...we are forced to write certain amount of characters daily so let's write some nonsense about some irrelevant feature or copy-paste some video/Ad from YouTube and call it a day" - type of "journalism"...

c'mon man, just her musings about the vehicle. I appreciate the gentle stream as well Donna

Three streams on each side. Classy.

My 2006 & 2008 Hyundai Sonatas did that. I hated it, thought it did a lot worse cleaning because it wasn't even... It wouldn't reach to the top of the windshield so you'd have to tap quickly for spray a couple times so the wipers wouldn't activate and then let it be dragged up by the wind until it was high enough. Every other car I'd ever been in has the diversified stream.

My 2011 Outlander does the repeat spray thing, I think it's so annoying... Stop it every time.

Pretty good when they work. Drove 300+miles yesterday after a snow/ice storm and only had the fluid work about 50% of the time

@cardrvr,

This is a BLOG. It's all about random musings like this. If you want traditional journalism just stick to the published articles.

Regarding the A8, I like how the washer jets are hidden under the hood, my car is like that too. And those wipers look awesome.

On the autobahn where this car is designed for- the mist does a very ineffective job at ensuring that the liquid hits the windshield. Mercedes also uses this 3 high powered jet system for their cars. (and a much more complex wiping system that increases the range of the wiper by what must be 12%. If the headlights were on the third spray should have induced the headlight washers to engage - i think.

In my car? Very poorly. Especially in the winter months when there are several inches of snow on the hood obscuring the nozzles.

vwkidd, that's a much nicer way of saying what I wanted to say "It's for the tools that insist on washing their windshield at freeway speeds where it sprays down about 4 cars behind them too."
