2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0: Still Burning It Up at 20K

mustang-gt-sill.jpg

Our Mustang GT remains one of my favorite cars in the fleet after nearly a year of service. I really look forward to driving it every time I score the keys. There aren't many cars that can do that regardless of the price, so the fact that the Mustang sill holds my interest after all this time is indicative of its performance.

I'm also reminded of the fact that even though it has over 20,000 miles on the clock, our GT doesn't feel like a car that has been beat on. The interior is still tight and rattle free, the clutch take up is still very progressive and easy to modulate and even the suspension still feels fresh.

This is the most grown up, refined pony car I've ever driven. And it lays great rubber into second. What more do you need?

Agreed - mine's approaching 22,000 miles and has nary a squeak/rattle, even in 20 degree winter temperatures. Feels as good as it did at 10,000 miles when I bought it.

"What more do you need?"

More power please. :)

Your wish has been granted. The 2013 Mustang 5.0 is supposed to have a slight power boost (to 420 hp, I think).

@greenpony

Yep, that's the number. No idea if they actually did anything different or just uprated the engine, though.

I'm almost at 15k miles on mine, and other than a bizarre electrical spazzout, it's been perfect so far. Daily commute or 1800 mile road trip, she's been great.

Roasting the tires going in to 3rd and 4th, perhaps?

Do another track test of it now that there is 20k+ miles on it to see how it compares to the original one

Still waiting on headlight post.

I know it's never winter in LA; is it ever night?

I'm at 12,000 and everything is perfect. I've got a FRPP ProCal tune. I'm laying down about 400 rwhp. Freakin Awesome.

Inside Line and other 5.0 owners,

Be sure to get those squeaky front LCA's replaced via Ford's TSB before your warranty is up. They are much stronger than stock, eliminate the squeak, and provide tighter handling and steering. My front chassis always stays planted.

<4,500 miles on my 2012 GT and still puts a smile on my face just looking at it (which is nearly all I get to do since its sat in my driveway most of the past year)

Saunupe, can you explain what LCA and TSB mean to this newbie/poser? Thanks in advance.

mcesarey says:

LCA should be lower control arm and I believe TSB is Technical Service Bulletin?

@mcesarey,

Yep, that's what it means. I apologize for the acronyms. Also get an alignment if they replace the front lower control arms. But seriously I would advise everyone to go ahead and get them replaced if you are having problems with them because their replacements are a significant upgrade.

I was picking up my '12 Raptor SuperCrew yesterday and the dealer has a left over '11 Mustang 5.0 with 6spd NAV and leather for 29k and change. I briefly thought about it until my Wife gave me the look.

Thanks guys. Would the ford dealer service dept automatically perform the replacement next time I bring it in, or do I need to mention it?
