2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0: Plain As Day

mustang_tach_oilchange.JPG

With an alert like this one from our longterm 2011 Ford Mustang GT, there's no "not knowing" when to change the oil. It lit up over the weekend and would only go away if you press the reset button. Smart design, and we'll get right on it.
On an unrelated note, I find the old school skinny font on the gauges a hoary retro touch that's too much on the cutesy side.

I would advise that you guys switch to a mid-tier full synthetic oil, such as Mobile One full synthetic since you have over 20k miles. I switched to Mobil One after my first oil change. I hit the dyno on Saturday and made 374 rwhp and 341 TQ at the wheels....all stock with a K/N air filter. Most 5.0s do around 360 to 370 rwhp

I'm not crazy about the font either. I like the Roush models that swap it out for something more modern. The Mustang is gradually deviating from the retro styling slightly more than the Camaro and Challenger, but it needs to deviate a little more. I will get one, though.

I don't like the retracted redline. It should be where it ought to be-- out by the numbers. I want to have only one movement of my eyes to the tach. Say I am up to about 4K; I am looking at the lines/numbers. But when I get closer to the redline, I need to move my eyes down to the stupid, tiny red blob.

I think Ford has always had a problem with redline. A lot of Fords never even had a redline marker.

Yeah the font on the gauges in this car are awful. One of the things Ford should have left in the past.

My Honda's do a good job telling you when it's time for service, they just don't do a very good job of telling you what needs service. I just got the service light on one of my cars, and it says I need a B123 service. I assume oil and filter, but what else does the stupid car want? The manual says it also wants a tire rotation, air filter, cabin air filter, CVT fluid change, and maybe a couple others I missed. Hmm, I'm glad I've got a tax return coming. As far as the font, I don't like it. Looks great in a classic Mustang, but just doesn't cut it in an otherwise modern pony car. These gauges are too small and illegible for a performance car.

Are you going to check the differential when you get it to the dealer?
