2012 Audi A8L: At the Dealer

 A8-at-service-1.jpg

This morning I dropped our long-term Audi A8 at the newly refurbished and quite lavish Santa Monica Audi for its 5,000 miles oil change. The staff was polite and organized. Our service advisor Angel Aguilera had us in and out in just a few minutes.

He also asked me if I needed a loaner vehicle for the day. I declined, as Magrath was already waiting for me outside in our Volvo S60. Next time we'll take him up on it.

I avoid "lavish" car dealers, since all that fanciness comes out of my pocket.

But then again, I wouldn't even consider an Audi or an A8L, because spending a lot of money on a high-maintenance vehicle may impress some people, but not me.

So the antithesis of the dealers in San Diego. Ours has our car (still) for a warranty repair and today they tried to shake us down for a repair that was not part of the warranty work. So pleasing to deal with disreputable organizations. Really remarkable they stay in business...

@ blueguy - they haven't got the car back yet and have not had anything outside this oil change done at the dealer.

My experience with Santa Monica dealerships (BMW, Jeep, VW) is that they all suck royally.
Even though I live locally, all my car dealing and servicing is done elsewhere.
I wish it wasn't so.

@desmo: I couldn't agree more, I have had more than one bad experience at Audi Santa Monica but that was dealing with sales, I'm not sure how the service experience would be but if it is anything like Santa Monica BMW's I'd run away and get my car out of there before they mess anything up or hit it in the service bay and try to pass off the damage as already there (true story). Most of the Santa Monica dealerships are a mess really, the only times I've had positive experiences was dealing with sales at Lexus SM and their beautiful new dealership, too bad their cars cannot excite me the same way. I've found that the dealerships in the valley and other areas that aren't overflowing with people who perpetually have $80,000 waiting to be rudely extracted from their pockets tend to work hard to earn and keep your business. The only outlier I would say is Mercedes of Beverly Hills whom I have always received first rate buying and servicing experiences from and surprisingly is the anthesis of my experiences at Jim Falk (Beverly Hills) Lexus (guess they ditched their classes at "Lexus University").

Scheduled maintenance is free, so I would not worry about how lavish the dealer is, you pay for it when your car is older or when you buy a used car from them.

I would love to see the windshield wipers in action on this beautiful car :) A bit strange I know but they are nicer than the ones on the A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 and Q5; As a B7 owner I too have the VW/Audi "skinny wiper syndrome" whereas the A8 has thicker wiper arms with holes in them to be aerodynamic and to allow the rain to fall through. I would love to see them. High quality wipers in a high quality car :)

Santa Monica BMW did that to my car too! I gave it to them in perfect shape, they returned it with a gash in the front bumper.
