And by "soon" I mean this weekend. In only 118.8 miles bodyblue will be surrendering his Fun Police license which will preclude him from ever again criticizing our enjoyment of long-term cars through gratuitous burnouts.
In case you've forgotten, the comments on this post explain the terms of our agreement. Here are the basics: When the 'Stang rolls through 20,000 miles with its clutch and transmission in tact, I will officially win the wager.
The Mustang is in my driveway right now. I have plans this afternoon to knock off the remaining mileage. Check back next Tuesday for the victory post, which, if I had to guess, will contain a most creative burnout. See you then.

If there isn't a video of you doing a burnout as the odo clicks over to 20 I'll be very disappointed.

Big, NASCAR style donut in the Sears parking lot as the odo click over 20k would be a fine sendoff.

You'll be suprised, (apples and oranges) my 2000 GT survived 100k+ of stop and go commuting, hooning, auto-x, and road course work with the clutch and tranny in wonderful condition.

So what's Grandpa going to whine about when he can no longer whine about burnouts? Who am I kidding, I'm sure he already has a list.
I too want to see a see it cross the 20k barrier doing a righteous burnout!

Knowing how pedantic bodyblue is, I'm sure he'll find something else to complain about. No worries there.
While probably an honorable and smart guy, he seems like the type of personality who loves to infringe on the enjoyment of others by finding something to complain about everything, while hiding behind the curtain of "things I learned while researching on the Internet".
I had a coworker just like him. VERY VERY smart guy, but it was impossible to have a positive conversation with the guy because he would always choose to focus on the negative side of any coin.
The only good conversation you could have with the guy was to find something to complain about and he would enthusiastically join in.
It was almost comical how pessimistic the guy was, but in reality, we were actually kinda worried he would go postal one day.

There's always that one guy at work that just rubs people the wrong way.

Eh BB is fine. The attitude against aggressive/reckless driving comes from a personal incident, apparently, so it is understandable where it is coming from.
Sometimes he does remind me of my father-in-law (and they're from the same area) who I have love-hate moments with. In general, I'd rather have BB around. It rounds out some of the viewpoints around here.

I didn't realize that just making it 20k miles was the standard that clutches and transmissions were held to these days. What happens if they fail at 30k miles? Will that be "acceptable"?

+1 to stovt001 and wjtinatl for video of a big smokey burnout across 20000.0 mi.
We need cameras outside to view the tire carnage and inside to catch the odo rollover (and smoke rolling by the windows) please!

Geeeze guys....I dont think burnouts are cool for several reasons.....it is abuse on fine machinery (and I love machines) and it can be dangerous on the street. Want to do a burnout? Find a some private property and have some fun! :) Its your car and you can do what you want UNLESS it infringes on my RIGHT to drive in a safe enviroment...got it guys?
I dont complain or bitch just for the fun of doing it. I usually respond to stupid, over the top comments and a lot of people dont like it. AND I dont have any sycophantic love for any brand or origin of cars and that REALLY pisses off a lot of people that do. Also I hate it when people say that to be an "enthusiast" one has to like burn-outs, fast cars and dangerous driving. A good example is this stupid statement "infringe on the enjoyment of others". I am sorry if by promoting safe driving makes the world less fun but I will NEVER stop doing it. (when you lose a brother to street racing then you can comment on it...but until you do....stick it where the sun dont shine)
Also you remember I was pulling for the Mustang all along....remember? I like Fords and grew up in a Mustang family that has had 1 65...2 66s.....1 73....1 79....2 84s...and a 2005. I just hated seeing such a fine automobile trashed all the time. And NO ONE one here can say that IL LT cars are not beat to hell can they?
SO :) WHEN a video from the inside of the Stang is posted so I can HEAR how the trans shifts and the car drives and it sounds good, I will NEVER EVER say how stupid and pointless burnouts are again. I will never stop commenting on saying that street racing and unsafe driving is wrong. But I had a small victory already with the strange fact that the rear brakes had to be replaced already...so Josh's victory is already diluted somewhat. :)
Come on 5.0! You can make it! :)

Blue,
It's not the ideas that your present that cause issues. It's the way you present them. I read a lot more than I post here, and it's a common theme throughout your posts.
The prime example is your prodigious use of the word "stupid", and various other synonyms. No one likes to be called stupid, and yet every one of your comments includes some jab at someone's intelligence or the intelligence of their comments.
Now, I know you're going to say something about the separation of the person and their comments. Don't be pedantic. It's the same thing. That's why you find the time to defend your views, because you're defending yourself.
Promoting safe driving is great. I'm all for that, and I am NOT saying your comments are stupid.
I'm suggesting if you don't want to feel persecuted, simply find a better way to do it than to call other people stupid.
bodyblue says:

Thanks for your comments...I dont feel persecuted at all because I dont take anything on here personally. Not driving safely IS stupid. I am sorry that makes people angry. I really think it is them feeling guilty about doing something they know is wrong. Anger is a natural reaction and I understand it. There is a massive amount of stereotyping and frankly bigotry that is spewed on here and that is when I say what I think about it. Let me give you an example. On a recent thread a normally smart poster opined that "hybrid drivers and sense are not things that usually go together". That is a bigoted and ignorant statement. I said so flat out. Only one other agreed with me and said something...I find that incredible....dont you? There are posters on here that tell us how much smarter they are than others because of the cars they drive....how would you describe such an attitude? Trust me, I know I come across as snide at times.....but it is really only in response to outright ignorance and bigotry. Thank you again for your reasonable and frank comments. Such a post would never provoke anything but what I showed here. Oh and if you can find another adjective for ignorance and bigotry I will gladly use it. :)

@ Josh, you should realize by now, body is never wrong, everything Ford is great, everything GM does is terrible(this is the world as he sese it, so that's the way it is).
@ body Justa heads up, there are numerous Ford web pages showing the Mustang doing burnouts, even the Mustang configurator shows a number of them doing burnouts & allows you to pick the pattern of burnouts for the background behind your Mustang. Burnouts do no more damage or abuse to the 'fine machinery' then any of the other actions the car is designed for (cornering, braking, accelerating hard).
I think the vast majority of the readers here are probably laughing at your claim that you don't complain or bitch just for the fun of it & you usually only respond to posts you think are 'stupid'. You constantly go into every GM thread & complain about the car or throw in some snide comment w/no other purpose than to crap on something you don't like. The vast majority of the comments are not in response & follow a certain pattern: (insert gm product name) is a piece of junk, (insert ford product name) is great & it's operator error, you're all stupid for not thinking what I think, my prius is better. One of my favorite bodyblueisms was when you went into a thread about a completely unrelated car & started bashing the Cruze. There's no problem being a fanboy of one make, just suck it up & own it. That's what is amusing seeing your posts, the constant denial that you aren't biased.
At least others on here realize their inherent biases & own them. You constantly appear to be one of those rare ones that thinks they are perfect, makes no mistakes & is mystified how anyone can disagree w/you.
I think it's even more amusing that it's gone to the point that the writers have even noticed it to the point that they made a bet to prove you wrong. I'm sure you still won't get it. Admit it, you were wrong, they were right, the car survived just fine, they won the bet, you lost.
