1991 Acura NSX: Will The Bike Fit?

 1991_nsx_seat_acura_lt_9999_1006111.jpg

Y'all are going to love this. I promise.

Here's the deal: Mike (yes, Will The Bike Fit? Mike) and I go way back with the bike riding. And about 10 years ago we rode with a guy who fancied himself a real car guy. And he was. Loved to drive fast (whether or not he had any business doing so is another matter). And he rode bikes. A lot.

All too often his car world and his bike world would collide. Because he's awesome, this usually happened in the passenger seat of his NSX. Results after the jump.

So this is what a titanium Willits looks like in the passenger seat of an NSX. Check the titanium bar, stem and cranks. I like to think this machine goes well with the NSX's connecting rods.

Tam bike 2.jpg

Here's the best part: He still owns the car and was even willing to recreate the glory days for the sake of this blog. He told me he's planning to have the car repainted this year. No word on redoing the interior.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

Holy proverbial frijole, is that a Willits? Congrats on the cool bike, ti or steel?

Hot Dang! So the bike does fit...

bent13 says: "ti or steel?"

I believe this statement covers it: "Check the titanium bar, stem and cranks."

cjasis says:

It takes all kinds but it actually hurts me a bit to see that bike dirtying up the interior of that car.

But to each his own.

ptcdawg says:

Agreed, I wouldn't take a chance on that bike tearing/ripping the leather. Sometimes, the bike needs to stay home. Some cars are just that way. They all don't need to be a bike hauler.

technov says:

You should be tarred and feather for sticking a dirty mountain bike all over that leather interior! At least stick a blanket down first, my goodness.

Dare you to do this in a brand new car...

brn says:

03:20 PM, 01/25/12

This may be the first case of the bike not fitting.

jukiemcjuke says:

It's an interesting revelation to be sure, but do you think Mike will ever forgive you for exposing his "bike fit?" series as pure fluff?

teekay13 says:

That guy knows his cars and bikes. An all-Ti single speed with rigid fork and v-brakes. As simple as it can get.

hondacura4 says:

04:31 PM, 01/25/12

I would at least put a towel or something over the seat to protect the leather.

explorerx4 says:

05:04 PM, 01/25/12

Those seats kind of creep me out. Upper bolsters look like biceps, plus head forearms and abs. Overall it looks like you are sitting on another person.
Don't take a sharp right turn or you're going to get a punctured lung from those forks.

kevinlch says:

05:06 PM, 01/25/12

That's how you treat your favorite car in the Long Term Fleet?
The other editor even use a towel to protect the car when he put his bike on some rubbish SUV/Vans.

And you just shove this dirty bike like that in an NSX?!
man.....

illoxyill says:

05:11 PM, 01/25/12

You guys need to get over this car already..

tysalpha says:

06:01 PM, 01/25/12

I treat my car, AND my bike, better than this.

hondacura4 says:

06:34 PM, 01/25/12

Explorerx4, those were/are some of the best seats inthe business as they are comfortable enough for long distance hauls yet supportive enough for spirited driving.

ddark13 says:

07:31 PM, 01/25/12

if someone did that to my car id flip out. forget about the mud, what about the pedals and frame scratching the panels

roger03 says:

08:37 PM, 01/25/12

Now, you guys are deceiving me!
How can you show such a thing!
21 years of taking care, and now you're doing this!
That is showing no respect!

fellout1 says:

Nice Willits. Few rides are worthy enough chariot for that bike, and for those who don't recognize - its been placed very carefully so that NEITHER damage each other. I like your style.

joliveira says:

@illoxyill
Why don't you get over first, and shut up posting here? just ignore the NSX's post, even when the NSX is probabily the most popular car on IL fleet, as you can see by the number of comments...

Please, just cover that damn seat with something.... This is already an old classic, it should have some respect.... That leather is old, and should be taken care as much as possible, to retain the cars value and apeal...

recreant24 says:

10:30 PM, 01/25/12

You guys seriously need to stop messing around with this car. Really? You compare it to a 2012 Audi R8 which was a complete joke and now your stuffing a bike into the passenger seat? What in the world is wrong with you guys?

nukem96 says:

12:55 AM, 01/26/12

@Recreant24 maybe they should just stop reviewing the car and writing articles...While I disagree with putting a bike in like that, I didn't mind the comparison to the 2012 R8. It was there to show how far (or not far) car performance has come. The Audi R8 by a lot of current NSX owners is consider the closest thing to NSX 2.0 It wasn't there to see which was faster.

fandsw says:

...a new low for Insideline!!! I literally cringed when I saw the pic of that filthy bike in the front seat!!!

wikiwiki says:

05:53 AM, 01/26/12

What moron would do that to an NSX? Or any nice car for that matter?

revs29 says:

06:11 AM, 01/26/12

Ugh. Couldn't even bother to put a beach towel between the bike and the seat? I always keep towels and cardboard in the trunk of my Accord for things like this...which is why the interior looks brand new after 9 years and 200k miles.

fordson1 says:

06:38 AM, 01/26/12

Read the post - it says the bike is Ti, not steel.

Read the post - it says this is NOT IL's NSX.

Seriously - it's like 3 paragraphs.

viss1 says:

Hilarious. Reminds me of the winery owner I worked for one summer who would transport hay in his Porsche 928.

wrinklebump says:

this is the only time i've clicked on one of these threads

just had to see how this went down

simon91 says:

07:37 AM, 01/26/12

That is wild!...and to do this often. My white interior NSX would just revolt and scream.

everglades says:

08:05 AM, 01/26/12

damn guys, at least put a seat cover on the seat and cover the rest of the area with rags or something. why would you dirty the car up like that? what kind of auto enthusiasts are you? surprised at the lack of respect for the car

stovt001 says:

08:32 AM, 01/26/12

+1 to fordson1. This is pretty bad reading comprehension even by internet standards.

fandsw says:

09:57 AM, 01/26/12

fordson1 - Doesn't matter what the bike is made of, it's still filthy with all kinds of hard sharp edges to screw up a car's interior, be it IL's NSX or anyone else's NSX. It's still stupid and moronic........

fordson1 says:

12:39 PM, 01/26/12

I agree with you, fandsw...I'm just saying read the post before commenting so that 1) you don't ask questions about the bike that are already answered in the post or 2) don't bawl IL out for doing this to their car...because it's not their car.

You seem to have missed that, because like these others, you did not read the entire post AND all of the comments, before commenting yourself.

Rinse, repeat...

kyolml says:

09:17 PM, 01/26/12

why can he just put a PIECE OF SHEET ABOVE THE SHEET? WORD?

wikiwiki says:

06:21 AM, 01/27/12

IL's NSX or not, still pretty moronic to do that. And we don't care if the bike it titanium. Who are you trying to impress? Titanium is so 1990s anyway. Get a carbon fiber frame ya hippie! Although I long for a traditional cromoly steel mtb...Jamis Dragon.

ap_1luv says:

Admittedly i couldnt help but give out a disgruntled groan when i initially saw this picture. I like to think i utilize my sports cars beyond their intented purpose, however i dont know if i could ever bring myself to place a mt. bike in the front seat of my nsx (if i am ever lucky enough to own one!). More power to ya i suppose =p

illoxyill says:

@joliveira
You were able to make sense of my comment; I can't say the same for yours.

@recreant24
Exactly. Give it a rest.
