Yesterday our very black 1985 Porsche 911 covered its 119,000th mile. Why is this significant? Well, when we bought it the 911's odometer read 113,897, so we've driven the now-winged wonder about 5,000 miles. Probably more considering the speedometer didn't work the first few months we had the car.
So far we've spent about $3,000 on repairs, some of which were no doubt voluntary.
For reference we drove our old long-term 1984 Ferrari 308 about 8,000 miles during its 12 months with us and we spent at $5,000 fixing the thing. Click here for the Ferrari's wrap-up.

So when do we get the suspension walk-around?

I like reading about the 308 a lot more for some reason. The 911 neatness wore off pretty fast for me.

The Ferrari wrap-up article says "We accumulated almost 8,000 miles on this '80s exotic," which makes it even more expensive per mile.

Think you've had it long enough to maybe run a vacuum cleaner over that IP?

I keep thinking when I read the posts on this car that this must be what the non-fans of the 308 felt. I just can't get interested in this car. I thought it would be fun at first but it just isn't for me.

I guess the pattern here is you guys don't buy very good old cars.

I love the Porsche factor. The PCA meets were worth the blog post alone. Try going to a Ferrari club/meeting with a bunch of like-minded enthusiast (those guys drive 250GTs and a host of other cars that are not your 308).
