I got the email on Monday. "Detail the Raptor" it read. "We're going to sell it." So yesterday the coolest truck to ever grace our fleet spent half the day getting babied.
Below is a brief survey of its condition at almost 30,000 miles.
From here the Raptor looks new. It cleans up well. The body is straight with only a few minor imperfections -- more from parking lots and hauling than off roading. Even the front skid plate looks nearly new.
The bed, well, it looks like a used truck bed. There's nothing here that's terribly surprising. It look like we used it like a truck for 30,000 miles, which we did. It's certainly the area that shows the most wear
With the exception of one trim panel, this truck's interior is excellent. The leather looks and feels good, the carpets were protected by thick rubber floor mats and the controls still feel new. The only place with some real indication of wear is the back of the center console which is visible from the rear seats.
All in, this truck is in good shape. And I've got nothing to gain in saying this. It's been well maintained, hasn't been driven beyond its intended use and hasn't been treated to our handling tests which would have killed its tires. If I were in the market for a used Raptor, this one is worth considering -- and that's something I'm sure buyers can't say about some of them (an issue largely blown out of proportion).
It's a sad day for those of us who have bonded with this truck.

If so many of you like it so much, how about someone putting their money where their mouth is?

Why did you not put a bed liner in it? That would have kept the bed in better shape.

No mention of the truck being on it's 2nd tranny?

Now I can only hope that Edmunds will get a work truck just to see what it is like to live with.
Work Truck (1/2 Ton Range)= Regular Cab\Long bed, 4wd with LSD, the largest engine possible with maximum tow package, and cloth seats.
Boldly go where no editor has dared to blog before!

throwback: This truck has NOT had its transmission replaced. It had a software update and a solenoid replacement last winter.
And that was it.

Now can you guys get a Charger or a Focus or a Fiesta? Why not see if MyFord touch is really as bad as they say...or is it just a really steep learning curve with good results at the end of the curve?? Or how about a Lincon...it has been years and years for one of those....

You knew a year ago when you got it that you were going to be selling it in the not-too-distant future.
You don't think you'd get back the price of the bedliner and then some, now that you're selling it?
Yeah, a truck is a truck - and money is money.

@ BB
Wait, Lincoln makes cars that are actually relevant?
/trololololol
But seriously I second a Charger or Fiesta or 300C. But I also suggest waiting for the Focus ST. Hot hatches ftw. And then of course there's the Landie Defender 90. You are getting that, right?

I think another truck makes sense, and in this case, an EcoBoost F-150. Moreover, push the test to 50k miles at least. Let's see how the new turbo really holds up over time.
Car wise, IL is way overdue for a Subaru Legacy.

I second the EcoBoost F-150 nomination, although I realize two F-150's in a row might be asking a lot. But here's an idea: instead of ordering the most expensive version, get a SupreCrew XLT, 2wd with cloth and just the EcoBoost option. Use it as Edmunds chase vehicle, parts truck, etc for a couple years. Tow a couple race cars with it. And keep us posted on the economy, performance and comfort (or lack of) in a base truck. I know a 50k truck is going to be livable, how about enlightening us working folks who don't mind 17" wheels and a cloth bench seat! Will save you some money as well!

Eco-Boost Ditto!

How about a V6 Chevy truck to replace this one? I hear they have a great 4.3L engine, putting out nearly 200 hp! Plus it costs less that the base F150 with the puny 3.7L V6...
...on second thought, maybe I'll jump on the EcoBoost F150 bandwagon instead.

I third the Focus idea, but if you do that, I don't want to see some tarted up, high falutin', overpriced "Titanium" with a shitty twin-clutch auto that feels like a 4-speed slushbox from the eighties. You need to buy an SE, with the 5-speed manny and "sport package" (don't care if it's a hatch or a sedan). It doesn't get any more real world (or accessibly cooler) than that. Throw us poor bastards a bone, how 'bout it?

Waiting to see how much over market value you guys put the price at. This is not an 'outstanding' vehicle; actually none of your long term cars would ever qualify for that condition from my point of view. Just the fact that you guys use them like rental cars (which is the point of a long term test) disqualifies them in my mind. Some would make it to 'good' but that's as far as I'd go.
But I'm amazed that you price your cars so high. New cars with high mileage ... 20k in a year is high mileage in my area, maybe it's not that way in So Cal? ... would throw a red flag if I were shopping.
