An Update on Daniel's Mustang: A Reader's Long-Term Car

mustang-daniel-1.jpg

You remember Daniel. He had bought our long-term 2005 Ford Mustang GT and then sold it. But now he has a new Mustang that he has been modifying. Here are some new pictures. Looking good, Daniel.

Just wanted to give you a little update on the car, almost done. The body work is finished, I have the wheels on (18x9.5 front and the 18x10.5 I bought from you guys in the rear), exhaust is done (I am going to try to get an offroad mid pipe soon though), and I just ordered all the Steeda parts. Now all I need is the Progress Technology anti-roll bars and the Tokico D-Specs but they are still in development. I am also looking at a watts link and either a carbon fiber or aluminum driveshaft. We'll see, just depends how soon Tokico can get the shocks finished up. -- Daniel

How's the 5.0 respond to the Vortech? Can't wait to hear of the drive evaluation. Hood scoop's not my cup of tea but otherwise looks terrific!

Yeah, I'd love to know how the engine takes the blower. Sure looks good nestled down in there. I'm sure it can handle it no issue, but I just wanna know before I do the same. Course I need to get it back from the shop first. Stupid electronics.

so much money...

The way you modified it seems money is no object to you!

If I were you, I will use the money to buy the gt500 instead, so you will have a proper blown motor to start all the modifications. Making a gt to gt500 level of power properly will cause you money more than buying it stock, or the longevity of the engine is compromised.

Money is an object to me or I would have been done with the project a long time ago lol

Dtoye: thanks, means a lot that you would say that :)

Revn and Wjtinatl: the Vortech is a great addition to the already great 5.0, originally I didnt plan on supercharging the car but when I decided to recreate the Edmunds Mustang and when I found out I could get the kit installed by Vortech for about half the price if I gave them the car for a couple months for R&D it was a pretty easy decision. Plus, the sound of the V-3 is amazing(especially compared to the V2-SQ super quiet that was on Edmunds 05). I just got a gopro so I will be making a lot of videos :)

One question: are the hood pins functional?

Glad to hear you got a gopro. Great camera. Looking forward to some videos of the exhaust sound. Planning any track days with the Mustang?

silverstang1 says:

05:23 PM, 06/28/11

Yes, functional just like on the 05 :)

and ya theres a track day (or weekend actually) coming up July 9-10 at auto club speedway which I am planning on going to.

What a small world. Daniel, do you remember an encounter last week with a certain Camaro? I don't want to say where or when to avoid incriminating ourselves, but that was me driving :) Very fun.

Nice to meet you. If you're ever down in Wilmington, feel free to stop by my dyno shop any time.

silverstang1 says:

hahaha wow that is so crazy, I cant believe that was you! It is a very small world! Haha I will definitely have to stop by some time, my gf's parents own Performance Roofing on Avalon so I am down there every so often. You can email me the name of your shop at nitemare58@gmail.com, dont use that email anymore since I sold the nitemare lol

church123 says:

No need. We're at 300 Quay Ave. If you get lost just call the shop phone at 310-518-4966. Or just stop and listen for the sound of motors being wound out at full throttle :)

Exactly, as you say, IF IT WERE YOU. But it ain`t the case.
People take different roads, fortunately we all don`t think alike, otherwise, what a boring world this would be.

I for one would have done it differently than this guy, but a supercharger would be a common theme. Like for instance, a black mamba hood......

Don't pull the cat on that car. Not cool.

I'm no tree-hugger, but if you're driving the car on the street at all, you've gotta have the cat on there. It's just as irresponsible to pull it as it is to vent R12 off into the wild blue.

Car looks great though. For my tastes I might have left the hood scoop off, but I don't see anything else I would change. Very nice.

ryandigi says:

He could leave 1 cat on there assuming it has multiple...many of us Subaru drivers pass emissions with just 1 cat of the 3 :)

"Daniel, do you remember an encounter last week with a certain Camaro?"

Really? Do tell of your street racing story, we all want to hear about it.

church123 says:

07:25 AM, 06/29/11

Who said anything about street racing? Sorry, nothing more to say.

silverstang1 says:

08:49 AM, 06/29/11

^ hahaha

about the cats, how can you argue to keep them on? lol I understand the whole irresponsible thing but I have had the car since November and it has 4,500 miles on it. How is that hurting the enviroment more than a track car with not cats? I can understand what your saying about a daily driver with no cats but I have put about 500 miles a month on the car. And a lot of that is just driving to dyno days and shows.

Well, just saying it all looks expensive to me for all the mods. Good for you that got half off for the supercharger. A GT500 is $54000 w/o negotiations plus tax&fees here at my dealership, maybe your total sum is still cheaper.

One reason I don't like to put a blower on this motor is that both cams are timing/phase adjusted with high compression and high redline for a big motor. It's new for Ford and definitely not feel like a motor that's good for supercharged for me. Going to Ford Performance to check the price difference between the short-blocks, you can see how much they are charging more for the GT500.

silverstang1 says:

i know what you mean, thats ones reason I wasnt really thinking about supercharging it at first but Paxton has a lot of "durability testing" on their 800 hp 5.0
