Sorry for the ill-lighted garage shot, but I couldn't let this photo op showing the two Outlanders parked nose-to-tail slip by. Looking at the two Mitsu crossover siblings, it's obvious the Sport (lil' bro) has a truncated cargo area and a clipped front end. If you're burning with curiosity over the differences in length, height, weight, cargo and rear passenger space, hit the jump.

Bigger difference then I thought.
They should offer the V6 from the GT in the Sport. With the much lighter weight that would make it suit it's name much better.

If the Sport had the engine from the GT, I would buy it.

That little outlander sport is nice but they need a more powerful engine option for it. I suggest they partner up with Kia/Hyundai since Mitsubishi used to help them out back in the day and put to good use Kia/Hyundai's 274 hp 2.0 Turbo engine. Meanwhile Kia can learn how to make a proper handling compact car(Forte SX) and perhaps create an AWD system in the process(Forte EVO :-) )

The proportions of the Sport looks much nicer, but I can't get over the engine and poor resale value. I have a co-worker looking to sell his 2005 Galant SE with leather and 140,000 miles. His trade in value is only $3,800 for Good condition. An equivalent 2005 Accord EX-L is $11,000. Holy Moses!

While I prefer the bigger one (despite the small looking wheels and tires) a Sport with a better engine (I'm thinking Lancer Ralliart turbo engine) would be very nice.

@SirTodd - Interesting. KBB's "overinflated" private party sale on an '05 EX-K with 140K miles and a V6 (you didn't specify so I added that upgrade) is $9705. Galant is $5115 for a 4 banger without any significant options. So that's about a $4600 difference. How much of that difference existed back in '05 when the vehicle's purchase price was negotiated? I'm certain that in '05 a 4 cyl Galant would be thousands less than a 6 cyl Accord so a good chunk of that price difference on resale is simply due to the Honda having a higher purchase price. The Galant surely depreciated more but I doubt it's as bad as you're implying.

LMAO @SirTodd. you have got do be kidding if you think you'll get anywhere near that much on a 100k+ trade-in. KBB is a joke.
and the new age Mitsu's don't depreciate as fast as their old crap-boxes. People are so narrow-minded. The Galant is the worst example of the brand ever; rebadged Dodge with a $3500 rebate new? Why are people surprised it depreciates like crazy? The U.S. Galant doesn't even exist in Japan, it's hardly a Mitsubishi

@fushigi,
Not sure how you got your amounts. I said "trade-in" value not "private-party"? I just did the KBB trade-in value again it says $3,800 for the ES with Leather and alloy wheels, good condition. The Accord EX-L is $10,800. Keep in mind, most cars that old fall under Fair condition. I was optimistic with the Good condition.

And yes, they're both 4-cyl. The ES is a 4 and I mentioned "equivalent 2005 Accord EX-L", so both 4-cyl.

@SirTodd - Your first post said it was an SE, not an ES.
Anyway, I stand by my point that a significant portion of the gap in prices can be traced to up front differences in purchase prices. The Galant does depreciate more, but it isn't as bad as many folks would believe. And with Mitsu's better warranty and other factors (for instance, Accords are stolen more often so are probably slightly more expensive to insure), overall TCO for 140K miles is probably very close.

Ummm, hate to tell you but the Galant is not a rebranded Dodge. Never has been.
